The 'Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus 犯罪统计数据 Act' (originally known as the 'Campus Security Act') was enacted by the United States Congress and signed into law by President George Bush in 1990. 这条法律, which applies to all institutions of higher education, 公共和私人, which participate in any federal student aid programs, requires schools to: publicly disclose three years of campus crime statistics and basic security policies. Each participating institution of higher education shall disclose by October 1st of each year their campus crime statistics for the three previous calendar years in the following categories:

Beginning with calendar year 1999 these disclosures were required to include all public property (streets/sidewalks) within the campus and immediately adjacent to it.
